Grindeks Kalceks UK

Company overview

Grindeks Kalceks UK is the UK subsidiary of the Latvian-headquartered Grindeks Group, a globally established pharmaceutical company supplying active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and retail and prescription medicines to more than 100 countries. In the UK, the business works closely with the NHS, private healthcare providers, and third-party distributors to support access to essential medicines across multiple care settings.

In January 2024, Grindeks Kalceks UK  transitioned from a virtual operation to a physical presence at Enterprise House, located on the Norwich Research Park. For the UK subsidiary, the move marked a strategic milestone. The UK team sought a location that combined commercial practicality with a strong sense of community and supported growth while remaining cost-effective in the early stages of development. Enterprise House has exceeded those expectations.

Norwich Research Park offers a distinctive environment, bringing together more than 50 businesses within an internationally recognised research and innovation campus. Regular networking and training events, along with its proximity to major academic and clinical institutions, have helped Grindeks Kalceks UK quickly embed itself within the local ecosystem. The site’s proximity to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and the University of East Anglia has also supported recruitment and collaboration, particularly through the opportunity of student placements and research engagement.

As a tenant at Enterprise House, Grindeks Kalceks UK benefits from access to technology platforms and specialist expertise across the research institutes on campus and at UEA, strengthening its links between science, regulatory and commercial delivery.

Addressing Complex Health Challenges

Grindeks Kalceks UK supplies complex generic medicines used to manage conditions with significant public health impact, including oncology, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. These medicines are provided in accordance with their licenced indications and support established treatment pathways across healthcare systems.

Ensuring continuity of supply, quality assurance and value for healthcare providers remains an important consideration in the delivery of generic medicines within today’s healthcare settings.

In this context, Grindeks Kalceks UK approach focuses on maintaining robust quality systems, regulatory compliance and responsible resource management throughout the product lifecycle, in line with applicable environmental and governance requirements.

Sustainability at the Core

Grindeks adheres to the European Commission’s best available techniques guidelines, with the parent company supplying these principles across pharmaceutical manufacturing and related sectors. Its operations include a modern, closed industrial biological wastewater treatment facility, supported by an on-site laboratory that conducts wastewater analysis, performance monitoring and research.

The company adheres to more than 70 binding environmental legislative requirements and holds a Category A permit for polluting activities issued by the State Environmental Service. Particular focus is placed on energy and water consumption, waste management, air emissions and the overall environmental footprint of products throughout their lifecycle.

From laboratory research through to final dosage forms supplied to pharmacies and hospitals, Grindeks maintains close control of each stage of the product lifecycle. This integrated approach underpins its commitment to delivering environmentally sustainable medicines at scale.

Proposition and Portfolio

Grindeks Kalceks UK’s portfolio expands access to affordable medicines while upholding responsible environmental management and regulatory compliance across its activities.

Medicines are supplied under the Grindeks and Kalceks brands, with the company working closely with healthcare providers, regulators and industry partners. This collaborative approach supports established care pathways and the practical delivery of medicines within healthcare systems.

A Growing UK Presence

Reflecting on the company’s development, Julie Worth, the General Manager of Grindeks Kalceks UK commented: “As the General Manager of a new pharmaceutical company in the UK, I am proud to lead our journey of growth and innovation within the Norwich Research Park community. We have discovered a collaborative and inspiring environment that supports both new and established businesses.
